Altered Book Exhibit at the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art

Museum Of Contemporary Art, Marin, CA

This past weekend, I visited the Museum of Contemporary Art, part of the Novato Arts Center, where they were having the Altered Book exhibit/fundraiser as well as Open Studios. The Altered Book exhibit is a silent auction in which 100 Bay Area Artists use discarded books to create "book art objects". The results are creative, varied, whimsical, thought provoking and original. The show closes on May 24 with a live auction so there is still time to see these fabulous works of art.

It was a special treat that it just so happened that it was an Open Studio day (first Sunday of every month). There are over 40 artist studios in 3 buildings at the Novato Arts Center who work in a variety of media, from oil paint and watercolor to ceramics and metal. It was wonderful to take a peek and see what the artists are working on and everyone seemed very friendly and eager to talk about their work.

My First Ever Art Show!

My first ever art show is at East West Bookstore in downtown Mountain View where I am honored to be the featured artist of the month! I am so excited as I've been working toward this for a while now. One of my affirmations lately is: I am ready for life's surprises. The same day of inquiring about the art gallery, my art was looked at, accepted and hung due to an immediate opening in the gallery. Surprise! And fortunately, I was ready!

East West Bookshop is quite a large space featuring a wide variety of spiritual books and gifts. I love to go into the shop as there is always something there to catch my attention. It's a very nice, relaxing environment with so much to offer. They have regular speakers and events during each month including yoga classes.

I absolutely love salt lamps and there are some gorgeous crystals here too!

My favorite part of the store is this beautiful, large rock water feature. Isn't it beautiful? It sounds beautiful too. Very nice if you're rushing through your day to just stop and breathe for a moment. Ah.

And just past the water feature at the very back of the store is the children's section and art gallery. Just through the doorway the art gallery is to the right.

And here's my little grouping of nine hanging on the wall. There are several other artists represented here and their work is beautiful. If you're in town, you must go and take a look!
